When strategically injected and/or topically placed onto targeted areas, PRP/PRFM brings concentrated platelets to the site of injury, releasing a variety of beneficial growth factors. We place this under the skin for deeper skin support and then recommend micro-needling it on the outer surface of the skin for superficial skin support.

Microneedling is the process of creating tiny, controlled, micro-injuries to the skin to elicit your body's natural healing response and in turn will induce new cell growth and simultaneously create micro-channels for topical solutions (serums and/or PRP/PRFM) to infuse deep into the skin that hyper signals your tissues to rev-up, renew and rebuild existing hair shafts, restore vellus hair growth, promoting fuller and thicker hair. Micro-channels created during the procedure may remain open up to 24 hours.

Hair Restoration with PRP/PRFM and/or Micro-needling with SkinPen® is a minimally invasive treatment. The treatment takes an average of 1-2 hours to complete, depending on the treatment area.

Hair Restoration with PRP/PRFM and/or Micro-needling with SkinPen® treatment causes a mild inflammation that triggers the healing cascade, thus releasing a number of enzymes to promote healing and tissue responses including attracting stem cells to repair the damaged area. The high concentrations of growth factors in PRP/PRFM achieve the following effects: new vellus hair growth, thickening of preexisting hair shafts, proliferation of dermal papillae cells, and faster transition from telogen to anagen phase and a reduction in the duration of the hair cycle. Growth factors in PRP/PRFM stimulate the growth of existing hair follicles, without interfering in the hormonal pathways of AGA— therefore it does not create new hair follicles or restore follicles that have already died thus, emphasizing the importance of using a combined therapy such as Minoxidil and Finasteride to achieve optimal results.

This treatment starts with a deep cleansing technique, followed by the placement of a topical numbing cream to the treatment area. Often a numbing cream is applied to the treatment area to reduce pain. Most patients report that micro-needling feels like being lightly scratched with sandpaper. After 20 minutes, the skin is cleansed again with a gentle facial cleanser, isopropyl alcohol and an antiseptic spray with sterile gauze.

This treatment involves drawing your blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate your platelet-rich from your platelet-poor blood. Platelet rich blood contains growth factors that aid in the healing process. This “liquid gold” is then transferred into a syringe and tactically injected and/or applied topically onto the treatment area before, during, and after micro-needling, allowing for the penetration of the PRP/PRFM into the skin— stimulating cell regeneration. Most patients compare the sensation to a pinprick. If you are particularly sensitive, we have a vibratory device that you may place on the untreated portion of the scalp for distraction. Healing platelets found within the blood can actually give the same benefits as hair transplant when used correctly— without the surgery and necessary recovery time.

A layer of your PRP/PRFM is applied to the treatment area to protect the skin against abrasion and friction from the SkinPen® device during treatment. Afterwards, our treating provider then selects the depth on the micro-needle cartridge to start treatment. This treatment is performed in a safe and precise manner with a single-use, sterile needle head. As with any needle insertion through the epidermis, careful skin preparation for aseptic technique and comfort are part of proper treatment and results in lower risk of bruising, bleeding, pain, infection, and scarring.

For enhanced results, we end all Micro-needling with SkinPen® treatments with 20 minutes of LED light. The trifecta combination of Micro-needling with SkinPen®, PRP/PRFM and/or serums, followed by LED light treats multiple hair concerns in just one session.

To receive the best results, it is advised to schedule a series of three to four treatments, repeated every 4-6 weeks, initially. Then, biannual maintenance treatments are recommended to maintain your results. Additional treatments may be needed to maintain your desired results. For hair restoration treatment, 8 or more treatments are advised.

Everyone’s hair profile is different, so the number of treatments and results can vary from patient to patient. A wide-range of factors including age, genetics, hormones, lifestyle, health, diet, metabolism, weight loss or weight gain, skin type, sun exposure, and other circumstances not related to Hair Restoration with PRP/PRFM and/or Micro-needling with SkinPen® can affect your treatment outcome and diminish the effects of any aesthetic treatment after a while. Our treating provider creates a custom treatment plan to best achieve your desired, long-term results.

Immediately after the treatment, you may experience tiny red bumps and a small amount of pinpoint bleeding at the injection site(s). Most patients report little to no after effects aside from small marks, bruising, minimal redness, swelling, and/or pain, which resolves fairly quickly. A major benefit of QWO™ is that it requires little downtime and you will be able to return to your daily routine shortly after the treatment. Patients eligible for this treatment must adhere to an optimal skin care regimen that will preserve the effects of QWO™, to both strengthen the skin and minimize recovery time.

The most commonly reported side effects include histamine reaction, mild-moderate sunburn, temporary redness/erythema and warm to touch from flushing of the skin (up to a few hours). You may experience hematoma/bruising, swelling/edema, photosensitive reaction, tightness, itching, flaking, peeling, scaling/dryness, rough skin, scabbing, burning, tingling, tenderness/discomfort, sensitive to touch, feeling of pressure or fullness, occasional stinging and/or prickly sensation. Milia, hypo-pigmentation or hyper-pigmentation (usually resolves after a month), freckles may temporarily lighten or permanently disappear in treated areas. These side effects generally resolve within a few hours to a few days without any further complications.

While Hair Restoration with PRP/PRFM and/or Micro-needling with SkinPen® takes more time than some other aesthetic treatments to see the full result, your hair will become noticeably thicker over time. While some patients may see superficial improvement within two months after undergoing the initial treatment, hair improvement is apparent as the deeper skin continues its healing process. Remember, dermal collagen remodeling occurs at the cellular level and generally will take 3-6 months to see noticeable results.

While Hair Restoration with PRP/PRFM and/or Micro-needling with SkinPen® takes more time than some other aesthetic treatments to see the full result, your hair will become noticeably thicker over time. While some patients may see superficial improvement within two months after undergoing the initial treatment, hair improvement is apparent as the deeper skin continues its healing process. Remember, dermal collagen remodeling occurs at the cellular level and generally will take 3-6 months to see noticeable results. Hair Restoration with PRP/PRFM and/or Micro-needling with SkinPen® does not treat complete baldness and is not a permanent solution to hair loss. The results can last for one to two years, until you age it away again. In some instances, results can last up to 24 months, and in other instances, you may notice some hair loss returning after only 6 months following Hair Restoration with PRP/PRFM and/or Micro-needling with SkinPen® treatment. Likewise, what may give an immediate result on one patient may take two or three sessions to achieve on another. There is no way of predicting if Hair Restoration with PRP/PRFM and/or Micro-needling with SkinPen® will break down unless you try it for at least two to three sessions. If you stop treatment, your skin will progressively age back to baseline in time. Be mindful of the fact that results vary and research documenting the longevity of results is still ongoing.
