Under Eye Restoration with PRP/PRFM and/or Micro-needling with SkinPen® is a minimally invasive treatment. The treatment takes an average of 30 minutes to complete, depending on the treatment area.

Under Eye Restoration with PRP/PRFM uses your body's platelets that contain growth factors to help restore volume naturally. Basically, we are making fillers out of your own blood tissue! PRP/PRFM is a natural filler and collagen stimulator, used to fill in hollowing under the eyes resulting in a refreshed, more awake look. When PRP/PRFM is injected into the face, it thickens the skin under the eyes.

This treatment starts with a deep cleansing technique, followed by the placement of a topical numbing cream to the treatment area. After 20 minutes, the skin is cleansed again with a gentle facial cleanser, isopropyl alcohol and an antiseptic spray with sterile gauze, then the injection treatment is performed. Most patients compare the sensation to a pinprick. If you are particularly sensitive, we have a vibratory device that you may place on the untreated portion of the face for distraction. This treatment is performed in a safe, sterile and precise manner. As with any needle insertion through the epidermis, careful skin preparation for aseptic technique and comfort are part of proper treatment and results in lower risk of bruising, bleeding, pain, infection, and scarring.

This treatment involves drawing your blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate your platelet-rich from your platelet-poor blood. Platelet rich blood contains growth factors that aid in the healing process. This “liquid gold” is then transferred into a syringe and tactically injected into the volume deficient area— stimulating cell regeneration and rejuvenating the skin.

To receive the best results, it is advised to schedule a series of three to four treatments, repeated every 4-6 weeks, initially. Additional treatments may be needed to maintain your desired results. Then, biannual maintenance treatments are recommended to maintain your results.

Everyone’s skin profile is different, so the number of treatments and results can vary from patient to patient. A wide-range of factors including age, genetics, hormones, lifestyle, health, diet, metabolism, weight loss or weight gain, skin type, sun exposure, and other circumstances not related to Under Eye Restoration with PRP/PRFM treatment can affect your treatment outcome and diminish the effects of any aesthetic treatment after a while. Our treating provider creates a custom treatment plan to best achieve your desired, long-term results.

Immediately after the treatment, you may experience tiny red bumps and a small amount of pinpoint bleeding at the injection site(s), temporary swelling and warm to touch from flushing of the skin. A major benefit of Under Eye Restoration with PRP/PRFM is that it requires little downtime and you will be able to return to your daily routine shortly after the treatment. Typically, the healing time depends on the severity of volume loss. Patients eligible for this treatment must adhere to the post treatment skin care regimen that will preserve the effects of Under Eye Restoration with PRP/PRFM treatment, to both strengthen the skin and minimize recovery time.

The most commonly reported side effects include histamine reaction, temporary redness/erythema, hematoma/bruising, swelling/edema, photosensitive reaction, tightness, itching, flaking, peeling, scaling/dryness, rough skin, scabbing, burning, tingling, tenderness/discomfort, sensitive to touch, feeling of pressure or fullness, occasional stinging and/or prickly sensation. These side effects generally resolve within a few hours to a few days without any further complications.

While Under Eye Restoration with PRP/PRFM takes more time than some other aesthetic treatments to see the full result, your dark circles will become noticeably brighter over time. While some patients may see superficial improvement within two months after undergoing the initial treatment, remember, dermal collagen remodeling occurs at the cellular level and generally will take 3-6 months to see noticeable results. During that time, the under eye tissue will naturally fill in the hollowness that was once there. Under Eye Restoration with PRP/PRFM Treatment will not completely or permanently improve Under Eye hollowness, skin texture, elasticity, fine lines, wrinkles and dark circles. The results can last for one to two years, until you age it away again. In some instances, results can last up to 24 months, and in other instances, you may notice some volume loss returning after only 6 months following Under Eye Restoration with PRP/PRFM Treatment. Likewise, what may give an immediate result on one patient may take two or three sessions to achieve on another. There is no way of predicting if Under Eye Restoration with PRP/PRFM Treatment will break down unless you try it for at least two to three sessions. If you stop treatment, your skin will progressively age back to baseline in time. Be mindful of the fact that results vary and research documenting the longevity of results is still ongoing.
